CD63 is a 53 kD lysosomal membrane protein expressed by a broad range of tissues/cell types, including platelets, granulocytes, basophils, a subset of T-cells, endothelial cells, sweat gland, islets of Langerhans, pancreas, prostate, and melanoma.
Strong cytoplasmic staining for CD63 is present among the metastatic melanoma cells involving a lymph node. There is no reactivity among the lymphocytes.

Trophoblasts and villus mesenchymal cells are negative for CD63.

Variable degrees of granular cytoplasmic reactivity for CD63 are seen in the cortical regions of the adrenal gland.
