CD71 is regarded as a proliferation marker, and is expressed on myelocytes, activated B- and T-cells, thymocytes, macrophages, proliferating cells, as well as metabolically active cells, e.g., placental syncytiotrophoblasts, basal keratinocyte, hepatocyte, endocrine cells, and spermatocytes. CD71 expression is observed in various neoplasms.
Strong membraneous and cytoplasmic staining is seen among the erythroblasts and erythroid precursors in this bone marrow involved by AML-M6.
Moderate cytoplasmic reactivity for CD71 is seen among the spermatocytes and Leydig cells of this testis.
The acini and ductal epithelial cells of pancreas show a weak to negative cytoplasmic or membraneous reactivity pattern for CD71.
